The thing is though, it actually needs to be played a heck of a lot more for people to pick up on it and create some hype.

Right now I reckon it may well not get played tomorrow and we'll never hear it on the radio again.

Don't get me wrong I think it's good that the hearts are getting played on radio 1 but to re-release the song is a backwards step. We're the loyal fans why would we want to buy something we already have? Even buying it of iTunes seems odd to me (when you've already got it). I hope it doesn't go on the covers album.

A couple of plays on the radio should not mean re-promoting something old.

hey moylesy may well be just an entertainer rather then a "dj" and he is obviously lacking in musical knowledge but i think he's doin a good job with a bit of free advertising for the band, ok its an old song but if it turns people on to the wildies then it can't be all bad

There was a Q&A session with Phill Jupitus in the Newcastle Sunday Sun this weekend.

One of the questins was.....

"WHO was the worst guest you ever had on Buzzcocks?

Chris Moyles . . . and I say that because it was disappointing. I had heard him on the radio and thought he knew enough about music and wasn’t shy to voice an opinion so I suggested him. He came on and hardly said a word. He didn’t get any of the songs in the guess the intro round and Vic Reeves made a quip. After that he became quiet and withdrawn"

Seems real life can prove us all wrong eh????

Why would anyone listen to that obnoxious tw4t?
Errrm - see my other thread on this subject I started before I saw this one...

Re-recording it at bunging it the B-side of the next single would seem the best thing to do.

if I remember correctly I think cd 3 of top of the world has a sticker on the front saying "including the single cheers"

this i think is mocking how it was single of the week on radio 1 whilst never actually being a single

i dont think cheers is 'for the loyal fans'. its for the casual joe blogs in the street who has never ever heard of the band. if it helps get a few more people listening to their other stuff then thats great. if they did rerelease it (and i think we are getting ahead of ourselves) it would be non wildhearts fans that would get it into the chart.

A step backward for the band would be to hide from the possible extra mainstream publicity simply because they dont want to 'sellout' or annoy their 'loyal fans'. Hell if they get enough demand I say release it no one has to buy it!!

Lets embrace it all.. theres no such thing as bad publicity for a band that is almost 2 decades old!!

The 3 versions of Cheers on Itunes (Top, Coupled & Strikes back) are the current 3 most popular wildhearts downloads...which is nice

I've downloaded it too.

Same drill tomorrow.

The band should give BBC North East and the Evening Chronicle and Journal a call too. Would make a good story. (Actually, same applies to areas where Ritch and CJ are from too).

Oh and the rock press, though I doubt they take much notice. Wouldn't know a good story if it him them in the face these days. Honestly.....

The angle of band's chart success surprise without so much as touring or even releasing a record makes it a good story in my book. (And yes I know it hasn't charted yet, nose it in on the lines of "Veteran Geordie rockers the Wildhearts are being tipped for a surprise return into the pop charts...." or something......)

Just downloaded it too.

In the meantime, change your MSN / Facebook status stuff to "loving the Wildhearts' Cheers" or whatever

Email your local radio station, put messages online boards, text Radio1's Moyles, Mills and Zane Lowe to play this song.

Old or new the Wildhearts need to be heard.

If you're gonna download it (and the more the merrier :)), can we all try to download the same one - my suggestion would be the Top Of The World version (It's the one I linked to) as it's already the most popular. Unless anyone knows for sure that they don't all count as seperate versions (So we'd end up with two average selling songs instead of one high seller)?
