just got a record called "knievel is evil" by a now-defunct northern-irish post-hardcore band called Throat. saw it recommended in rocksound as a "lost classic" or something. tis pretty cool, any fans of older jimmy eat world or quicksand would like it.

it's in a bit called "you'll thank us for this!" and says:

"It's five years old but this post-hardcore beauty (think Quicksand, Rival Schools and the like) created by four lads from Larne, near Belfast, still sounds mint. Clutch frontman Neil Fallon's duet on the Osmonds cover "Crazy Horses" is awesome, and Therapy?'s Andy Cairns co-wrote "Gleason" to make it a winner. They broke up, but you can download this and their awesome unreleased demos at www.throatmusic.com.

so yeah, they're not together anymore. i found an interview online that mentioned a song called "Saturday" that they did for a compilation just before they broke up, but the site seems to be down, so that and the other demos are nowhere to be found.

incidentally, if anyone's got "Saturday" or any of said demos, i'd be hugely grateful if you could send them to me (smithy_nofx@hotmail.com).

you might be interested to know that i recently had an e mail from lead singer phil woolsey. i was asking him about the possibility of finally getting a copy of that 'lost' second album skid solo, as it's been almost a decade. here's what he said :

hi denis - i'm sort of working on a joyrider website, but i'm a lazy arse so it could take a wee while! i'll somehow make those tunes from skid solo available through that. i'll keep you posted, thanks for the interest

cheers, phil

good news if i ever heard it! any other fans out there?

Wahey, I love Joyrider! Saw them a couple of times in a support capacity but I grinned and sang along like they were the headliners. There should have been more than one album and some singles from them. I have been wondering for many years now whether I'd ever get to hear Skid Solo. When that website happens that'll be magnificent! Thanks for that, Denis.

MarkE. As far as I'm aware Baby Stafford only released one single, Paper Love Maker, which I still listen to regularly. Damn shame he never got around to making an album. As I remember he started a band called Kate so I was hopeful something more would be forthcoming but I never heard from him again.

I went to see Joyrider on the back of the Rush Hour single. They were OK though I wasn't that fussed with the album but more importantly they were supported by the Slingbacks who went on to make one of my favourite albums of all time. So thank you Joyrider!
