rocket from the crypt

Postby spoon_of_grimbo » 8th Jan 08, 16:36

any RFTC fans here?

i've had a passing interest since i heard "on a rope" a few years ago, but i only really got into them in the last year or so. i was rooting through my old kerrang issues the other day, i'm certain that not long after they started doing the "where to start with..." features, there was an RFTC one, but i can't find it... has anyone got this who would be kind enough to scan and post it please?

Saw them at Reading Festival about 5 years ago (??) and they were great live! Seem to remember them getting the entire tent giving each other a pat on the back for being such a good audience!!!

Can see I am gonna be singing 'On a rope, on a rope, got me hanging on a rope......' for the rest of the night now!

It's a hazy pissed up 17 year olds memory but did the Wildhearts not put a bit of 'On a Rope' into the middle of Lovebank live on the Endless Nameless tour?

Was that the one when the power went off? And, I think, the shoe throwing challenge?

sounds like most of you have only heard song(s) off "scream, dracula, scream!" but if you like those, it's well worth checking out "group sounds," "rftc," and "the state of art is on fire" (the latter i think is out of print on its own, but it is included on the new compilations "the name of the band is rocket from the crypt" which is also reet gud!).

no-one got the kerrang issue with the rftc feature then?

I'd imagine that unless there was something WH related in the same issue, not that many of us would have bought it.

I got RFTC too, but as I recall, their other stuff was rare as rocking horse shit in the days before t'internet was in everybody's house...

*says quiet thank you to whoever and heads off to ebay to spend more money  *

I meant to ask about that new album, The Name Of The Band Is Rocket From The Crypt. Saw it in HMV in Brum a little while back but as it was ridiculously expensive I put it back, told myself I'd check it out at a later time and promptly forgot about it. So is it just a compilation, there aren't any new or rare tracks on it? I have most of their albums (Paint As A Fragrance still eludes me) but in this rare occurence the populist view is right, Scream, Dracula, Scream is their best. Also dig Group Sounds and Circa Now! Well, all of them, really. Never fortunate enough to see them, though.

it's not worth shelling out what HMV are charging mate, just get it off amazon (i think PAAF is on amazon too, i need to get that soon too).

but yeah, this new comp has the following:

first 8 tracks = "the state of art is on fire" EP

plus "boychucker" single (all three tracks of which are already available on "all systems go, vol. 1").

and then "on the prowl" and "come on" which as far as i'm aware were previously unreleased.

if you haven't got "the state of...", then this is worth buying for those tracks alone, they're from the same sort of era as "scream, dracula, scream" but in my humble opinion, even better.

love that song!!! for some reason, my copy of that album has the track before "lipstick" missing. there's a track for it, but it's just a second of silence... weird.

What's John Reis been up to after RFTC and Hot Snakes split up? It isn't like him to not have at least 3 kick ass rock n roll bands on the go.....

this is his only band atm tho, since rftc, hot snakes, and the sultans all broke up.
