Anyone know Any Info On This CD?

Postby findaway » 10th Jan 08, 23:50

Right a week or two ago I bought a Wildhearts promo from Steel-Wheels (Newcastle record store) and it was of Vanilla Radio/Stormy In The North.

But instead of a normal cd box it was in a DVD style case with a black cover with the smile thingy on the front and with the track listing on the back & CD is just a silver cd with the tracks wrote on in pen.

Now I was wondering if anyone else had this or knew what it is because it has no date or record label marks on it :?

Thanks

- Lee

First impressions? I'd have to say: I hope you didn't pay too much. :?

Seems odd that it doesn't even have the band name on the cover - or even a catalogue number. I know that bands release 'anonymous' records to DJ's to see how it goes down (The WH and 'Pump It Up' for example), but it has it written, albeit in pen, on the CD, so...

If you slide the inlay out, is it on proper glossy printed paper?

I've seen them crop up on eBay from time to time, and I've never been so keen sure about it, but Steel-Wheels is generally pretty good for Wildhearts stuff - the Ginger one makes an appearance there himself from time to time.

Paid something like £3 for it and it's on printed paper BUT it's really well printed so I dunno :?

Yeah Steel-Wheels normally checks things before they sell them and i'm glad you've seen one on ebay before because it means that there is a chance this thing is real after all :D

You might want to try giving JasonH a PM, as when it comes to the WH discography he's very much yer man.

He's not on very often though and I don't know whether he'd chance upon this thread, so you're probably better off contacting him. :)

I bought one from a Wildhearts gig in Whitehaven a few moons back, the only difference is mine is fully signed by the band. It's a Wildhearts release but not a full on release, if that makes sense.
I think mine cost a tenner, but the wife got it for me.

this is a scan of my CD Ean, it says Promo 2002 on the bottom if you can't make it out.

Looks like yours may well be a copy.

Ah, cheers. S'not mine though, it's findaway's. He only paid 3 quid for it though, so I guess he got half a good deal...

Hmmm. Wonder why I never bought one? I was at the gigs in 2002.

AH, no worries. That tour was 2004 though - assuming you mean the one with the Daftness?

04/02/04: Dudley - JB's (Warm-up date)
06/02/04: Whitehaven - Civic Hall (Warm-up date)
07/02/04: Wrexham - Central Station (Warm-up date)
08/02/04: Brighton - Concord 2 (Warm-up date)

Unless it was merch they had left over that they were trying to shift to raise funds?

Hey thanks for the info Ean and co it's much appreciated :D

I went back to steel-wheels and told them that it might be a copy and they gave me my money back and told me just to keep the CD so it's all good :D

I'd still like to know if mine is real or not but hey someone will know :)

Well if you've got it for nothing, bargain! :D

I'm assuming it isn't blatantly a CDR if you look at it?

Optimistically, I'd imagine a balls-up in the pressing plant meant that, for whatever reason, the CD didn't get printed on.

Realistically, either the CD got lost or damaged and a copy of the two tracks was knocked off to replace it.

Seems odd that Steel Wheels didn't check out the inside of the case before they put it up for sale though?
