My.
God.
Went to watch my mates' band last night in a battle of the bands in Mancester 235 casino, it was the final of the Key 103 battle of the bands - they'd had thousands of entries and were now down to the final 3. So they'd done flamin well to get that far. The winner would get to play the the Knowsely Hall Music Festival with the like of The Who, Madness, The Zutons etc etc. In front of 30,000 people. Woah.
...and the venue was a casino. A really posh one. My god, it was posh. They certainly weren't ready for a load of punks turning up to watch the band!
dBd were on first, and played really well. Not the best I'd EVER seen them play - but they were damn good, plus you've got to allow for nerves when there's a panel of 5 judges sat bahind a table facing you when you're on stage haven't you? There wasn't a lot of us watching them... but we were LOUD!! woo!! They only got 3 songs, same as everyone else, and it was all over too quickly.
Then it was the nervous wait while the other 2 bands played. The second band were really good (I'm sorry, I can't remember either bands' names!) Not my cup of tea, but quite commercial with some catchy little ditties. Third band were a little too tame for me, I lost interest about a minute in and wandered off to the luxury toilets (honestly, they have to be seen to be believed!) and listed to the piano man in the lounge bar for a while. He was good!
Anyway, after what seemed like a week of agonising waiting (it was about 15 mins) they were ready to announce their decision... eek... you could feel the tension in the room like spaks of electricity.... then the DJ announced....... It was dBd!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! I actually couldn't believe my ears - had to look at Dingwall to check I wasn't hearing things!! Then I bounced around like an EXTREMELY bouncy thing, and squealed like an EXTREMELY squealy thing!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!! Meanwhile - the lads in dBd were all in a big heap on the floor because they'd been jumped on my so many people!!! We were all jumping round laughing, crying, hugging - it was fantastic! Then the lads were back on stage for an encore. Pressure off this time - they were fantastic!!!! Kept seeing John (bassist) giggling cos it was just sinking in!!!
What a fantastic night - I'm so proud of them. They've worked damn hard, and fully deserve to be there
Anyway - here's a couple of links for anyone who's interested..
