HMV - Ones to watch

Postby Sarc » 17th Jan 08, 00:12

Just had an email from everyones favourite anti-record store HMV pushing the so-called acts that are the ones to watch and right smack in the middle is Market Harbor, with the rlease date of the 28th of January its r.r.p is allegedly 17.99 but they're being "kind" enough to sell it for 8.99.

so if the cd's supplier is selling it direct from themselves for a tenner, this just goes to show what a bunch of rip off merchant bastards HMV is as their price is nearly double that of Cargo.

HMV can go bollocks for definate from now on as far as I'm concerned.
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

I'm not particularly a fan of HMV (especially since their recent makeover, which seemed to involve taking pretty much everything that was actually for sale out of the shops and replacing it with some computers and a juice bar), but just because Cargo are selling it direct for 10 quid (which they themselves have kindly reduced from £13), doesn't mean that's what HMV are paying for it.

As it's not out yet, and they've never actually sold one for £17.99, essentially all they're doing is making the more gullible punter think they're getting a better deal. So they're guilty of capitalism, but not much else.

And at least it's there, alongside plenty of acts that will (presumably) have been pushed by their record companies/marketing departments on to HMV much, much more than Ginger will be. Of course, I'll still avoid HMV and its ilk as much as possible and try to get my money to places I respect a bit more, but maybe just maybe this might mean a few more people who wouldn't necessarily have picked up Market Harbour will do so.

That's just 'marketing' talk - all that matters it what they are actually selling it for. I think £8.99 is a pretty good price - if you can put up with the wait while Cargo take their time shipping the CDs to HMV...

Or you could say that Cargo is actually ripping people off more than HMV. If HMV are actually selling it for £8.99 and Cargo are selling it for £10 direct to you with no middleman taking a cut...
