New Model Army

Postby Ilsa » 31st Jan 08, 23:51

Showing my age here, but any Ginger / Wildhearts fans enjoy a bit of New Model Army?

I've been a devout NMA fan since my teenage years, and can't help but be reminded of the poetic, intense and powerful music of my fave Bradford band when I hear Ginger.

Any thoughts?

Can't say i see any similarities but i do like some of the New Model Army stuff i've heard.

Only bought History so far(i love 51st state and No Rest)but i got into them through The Levellers and then spiralled off in all sorts of directions(Seize the Day,Seth Lakeman etc)

51st State and No Rest are a-m-a-z-i-n-g tracks! I'd recommed Thunder and Consolation if you were considering another purchase.

I think what reminds me of NMA is the evocative nature of the music and lyrics rather than specifics.

Was a big NMA when they were in their prime. The first time I saw them we were stood at the front waiting for them to come on stage when a load of lads came down, whipped off their tops and moshed like fuckers. was an eye opener at the time.

Apparently Ricky Warwick was in NMA I read somewhere.

He did some touring with them, but I don't think he appeared on any recordings.
