Thanks, Mainman. That explains what I suspected. When I first saw the post about The Works, it wasn't the studio album I expected they were working on. This tells me they have or are working on a different album of new studio songs because this isn't it. It makes sense now.

I've not read anywhere whether or not tThe Works is an endorsed set. However, it's been recorded deep within these very posts that there is perhaps two albums in the pipeline: there's the covers album, and then supposedly an album recorded in "Kiss" style. Sounds good!!!

The Wildhearts did it was called Coupled with, the eastwest era b-sides,unless someone has shit loads of cash to buy the rights*, will never be compiled as some unfortunate soul can't get the rights to them to release them from what I've gathered.
Besides chances are most of us lot on here have all the b-sides already and if we don't they're available on the hub, even though its only supposed to be trading for live shows and demos and such.

*which gives me an idea.
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

i think there is a way to do it if they re-record them all , which is kinda what warrior soul did the the 'klassics' album , and i think theres a few other instances of it .

but altho theoretically they could do an album of b-sides like that , i think it would fly in the face of some statements made 15 odd years ago about re-releasing tracks ... altho fuck it , we know the reason why so we wouldn't begrudge it . and since its new version , its not exactly buying them again so its not madly hurting fans .

Cracker did exactly the same thing with their best of which I'm pretty sure I mentioned a few times around here somewhere so it's no uneard of and as a few artists have done it it obviously works.

And BÖC on 'Cult Classics' if I remember correctly. However, judging from the re-recordings of 29x and Weekend f.ex. - which are nice, but don't add much to the originals, I'd much prefer them getting new songs out whenever they enter a studio. It doesn't seem like they'll ever lack in good material either.

WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Postby Mainman » 26th Mar 08, 00:33

Well guys, I now have in my mits a copy of the "retrospective collection" called The Works.

It is a double case format with (as you all know) 3 discs.

The front cover is.....an old one.......and when you open the case up, you are greeted by the same photo as on the front !!!!!!

I was expecting at the very least a booklet detailing perhaps a history of sorts or at least a discography of the band.

NO CHANCE

All that is in the single gatefold booklet is ahem ahem the tracklisting!!!!!!

Rather bizzare and I may be wrong on this, but the credits for all the songs are to WALLS. I know this is Ginger but I dont remember ever seen WALLS in the credits ?????

Anyway, thats the inside of the "booklet". THe outside has the same 2 photos that are on the front cover, and in the middle ...you`ll love this........

Adverts for the rest of the "works" collection.

MMmmm like the Monkees, EWVerything But The Girl, CHris Rea........Oh dear shall I stop.

I shall get it....coz I can but there is NO WAY the band would of touched this.

STILL ITS A CRACKING LIST OF TUNES BY ANYONES STANDARDS

Cheers All.................Dan

Just the same picture 3 times....cant believe there isnt even a mention as to which albums the tracks are from.....or which tracks are "singles/bsides. I got the Ramones release that Rhino did a couple of years back...and it is one oif the best packages EVER.

Giant sized book, magazine (in 3-d) 3 cds and a dvd.

Really expected more from this...but then the Faith No More one I have here is exactly the same.
