The Wildhearts bang out quality tunes in their sleep so why bother with an album of covers? Quite honestly, I'm not that interested and dare I suggest that this could be seen as a bit of an ego project?

You're not making any sense here. How could it possibly be conceived as an "ego project"? If you, and other folks are not keen, dont buy the fricken thing!

I think The Wildhearts have been suffering from a mild identity crisis ever since the post-Endless Nameless split. I'm hoping this covers project will put them back in the state of mind they were in back in the day. I hope it serves as sort of a creative reboot for them.

Not that the post-EN stuff is bad... it just feels a little forced. Like they're thinking too hard about it or something.

I didnt say I was not keen on the release.....I said that Ginge and Co are capable of producing a better album of their own than one of covers, thats all. I would rather wait 6 months than have a filler.

"I'm actually really looking forward to hearing songs by bands I've never heard before, and that have inspired my favourite band of all time"

EErrmmm you are not listening to songs by bands youve never heard before...becoz the Wildies perform them all....and most of the bands started AFTER the wildhearts (and therefore are hardly an inspiration)

Tell you what though......All the covered bands doing their fav wildhearts songs would be interesting.

I am not argueing, its merely an opinion, but after listening to Rooting, destroy etc...I want more ......................

I know Ginger writes killer tunes in his sleep, and I know the Wildhearts play those songs as Ginger requires them. But there are a couple of tunes on this track-list by bands that I wouldn't have known about or been bothered to have tried to have known about.

So if the Wildhearts inspire me, by virtue of their performance on this album, to get into some of these bands they cover, then everyone's a winner.

Sorry? Are you seriously suggesting that, musically speaking, the guys haven't been inspired by anyone or anything at all since 1989?! That's just ridiculous.

Tell you what though......All the covered bands doing their fav wildhearts songs would be interesting.

Why would that be more interesting than this one?

I must admit to having slagged off cover albums in the past as 'run out of ideas' or 'not bothered to write an album, but wanna release one' before the Wildhearts get round to do it and I need to eat my words! Let's face it, can you think of any rock band who have done one of these and it's 1. sold heaps 2. been really praised by critics and fans alike? Wait, there'll be a list forming after this post!

Nonetheless it's interesting and I will buy and probably enjoy to the same level as other albums if the quality is as good. Let them have a go!

It was mentioned by CJ (and Ginger, I think) that the band had reformed and needed to release another album (which, as we know, became The Wildhearts) due to 'contractual obligations'.

So does anybody know if this covers album is also part of that obligation, or is it something that they just felt like releasing?

You would think I'd committed an act of blasphemy by suggesting that this album of covers is going to be anything short of utter magnificence!
Right then, who would honestly prefer an album of covers to a riff-tastic beast of a follow up to 'The Wildhearts'?
The band have released what I would class as THE best album of their career in the form of 'The Wildhearts' and I personally would like to hear more original material, not some collection of covers.

i'm not even that huge a metallica fan, but i'd argue that the garage days 2cd set is pretty damn sweet, so i'm all for the wildies doing the same!

It depends what you mean?

If you mean that the collection of demos done by Ginger and CJ (for apparently 'tis only they who were actually signed to Gut records) became The Wildhearts album? Then yes... probably.

If, however, you mean that the songs, and therefore The Wildhearts album, fulfilled part of any contractual obligation to Gut Records? Then no, The Wildhearts came out on Round Records through Cargo and has nothing to do with Gut.

Unless either the release of Coupled With was deemed to have fulfilled the terms of the deal, or it was written off when they broke up the last time, then they may still owe Gut an album.

I've seen nothing to suggest that this will be a Gut release though, so I'd imagine it's just something they fancied doing.

i (probably like many people now-a-days) USED to be a huge metallica fan but they've kinda gone back into the list o bands i just "like" (and i dont wanna start the st. anger argument! but personally i thought there was nothing wrong with it and thats NOT the reason im not as big a fan as i used to be) but anyway...

back on track...

i agree the "garage inc." album was awesome... BUT ...and thats one big but... im talking vanessa felts size!! their album was full o songs by bands every 'tallica & maybe not so big 'tallica fan knew and maybe loved...

whereas the wildhearts cover album has gone the other way and only got a couple o bands that us wildhearts fans like (ie. baby chaos, distillers, helmet) but then they go on to cover songs by the lee harvey oswald band (who i HAVE heard of) and warren zevon (who i dont know!) etc. which could put some people off if they're not one of us obsessive ones!! whereas - in my opinion - they shoulda said "no, lets stick to the bands we know our fans love and would love to hear us play"

...like how much more exciting would this album be if we heard the wildhearts covering "Therapy?" and "Cheap Trick"?!!

*****

& (little off-post) im suprised/dissapointed i didnt see a ryan adams song on there! (with ryan being one o gingers favourite singer/songwriters!) ...NO NOT *B*RYAN ADAMS... if theres a "b" infront of it its not right!!!

Really? You've never heard Werewolves Of London?

Remember, there are meant to be three as yet unidentified tracks to be added when the CD comes out.
