Here's my take - (new to the forums here, longtime fan) I have not heard any of the songs by their original artist apart from Unsung.
Unsung
Great riffs, love the heaviness but the song is a little bit cold and mechanical for me.
TWCT
- Decent punky song, reminds me of the Dropkick Murphys to begin with.
Understanding Jane
- Love it, as Ginger says on the sleeve notes, it sounds like a blueprint for the Wildhearts. You can hear the influence on Ginger's songwriting.
Waiting Room
-This is really growing on me, i have not heard much Fugazi before and I think this one will take a while for me to really get but like it more each time I hear it.
Jeez Louise
- Not keen, this sort of basic and simple sounding punk that that the band are a fan of does not do much for me, I like the Wildhearts cos they give you the unexpected, or when they do simple songs they are ctachy as hell, this track though is neither unfortunately.
Ice Hockey Hair
- Strange one this, I like some parts of it, but not that floaty melody that starts the song. Ritch does a good job though and it has a good chorus.
Rocket 69
- Pretty good rock n roll, quite a straight forward song that is cool to listen to but not a favourite.
Possum Kingdom
- Don't like this at all, it has another of those riff/melodies that repeat every now and then (like the SFA song) and grates on me.
Rearrange You
- Never really liked the Baby Chaos album I bought but the more I listen to this the better it sounds after intially not liking it, reminds me of Therapy?
Pep Talk
- Upbeat, sounds like a Jellys song, listenable but not mind blowing.
Battleship Chains
- Liked this track, one you can easily sing-along to, simple but effective
Carmelita
- Best cover on the album for me, Scott sounds great, the song is massively catchy and made me check out the original which is so much different but also great. Seems like a lot of people have covered this song and you can see why.
The Judge
- Not had enough time to digest this track, I have a few Soul Asylum albums old and recent, and you can really hear this is a cover of that band. I think i will really like this track, as so far i do.
Everyday Formula-
- Like it, with the melodic chorus and harmonies and a slightly quirky feel to the song.
Overall i am really enjoying the album and didn't expect to love every song as there is quite a diverse selection on there, I can't wait for a volume 2, to see what else the band comes up with.
