Bad Publicity V No Publicity

Postby geordierussell » 22nd Apr 06, 01:19

I am really, really p1$$ed off at the moment.

Can some please explain to my why Pat Doherty or what ever the feck he is called is always getting in the papers for drugs, drink, models and all the other shit that goes with it.
All of this so called "bad press" will in turn lead to an, albeit, short term increase in his record sales.

Meanwhile over up on Tyneside, Ginger gets sober, cleans up, and makes possibly the album of the year but gets no recognition.

Ginger, we need to get some serious PR on your case.
1. GTT need to be pushed out to footie programs as a track that is played over highlight reels.
2. A concentrated effort on a single "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"? needs to made.
3. An Artic Monkeys approach could be applied.
4. Buy some airspace on to plug the album, especially late at night.
5. Bager/bribe or whatever the Brit people to get VDC on a shortlist.
finally
6. Be more visible.

There are so many things that should be done and are not.
We/Ginger are missing our chance.

Come, lets get together and make it happen.

Any ideas, drop them in here. A positive thread.

Er.. can't think of anything to add, but I have been up since 5:30 this morning. Give me a bit, and I'll be with you.

Agreed.

In addition, albeit slightly off topic, if Ginger doesn't win the "Songwriting God" award, or whatever the fuck it's called, at the next Kerrang awards, then it will be officially not worth the paper it's printed on. Anyone see a review from the tour in there? No? Me either, although admittedly I was just flicking through it in Smith's because it's been a long time since there was anyone in there that was worth reading about. But the point is if THEY won't write about him, who the fuck will? Maybe we should add "dye his hair pink and spike it up a bit, wear jeans that hang round his knees and show his boxers off, stick a ring in his lip and form a band with the drummer from Mcfly" to the list of promotional ideas...that might work.

Sorry...I'm rambling, aren't I?

Um, I think its "Classic Songwriter" award...now thats an award practically named after him, but it'll most likely go to whoever's playing Reading/Leeds this year with a bit of a history...

I spat my tea over the keyboard reading that. Really made me laugh.

There is a tiny bit on the letters page with a pic of Ginger this week.

I think the music industry is ageist and everything is geared towards what is new rather than the quality involved.

I bet if Ginger wrote a single and got a group of spotty herberts from Sheffield to pretend that they had wrote and performed the track it would have more chance of airplay, publicity and charting. Didn't the Alarm do something similar a few years back?

I think Ginger's two best chances of publicity are:-

Make a video for Yeah Yeah Yeah, so it is on Scuzz/Kerrang

Play at festivals/ get big support slots and steal other bands fans with his musical brilliance.

Far be it for me to defend the gutter music press BUT Sonic Circus were reviewed in Kerrang and got a really good review. And so did the album.

God, I feel so dirty now.
I'm a geordie in wonderland.

I saw the review of the Garage show in January, and it was a good review, as was the review for the album. Never saw a review for the full tour though. May have missed it though, overshadowed as it no doubt would have been by the eight page interview with Trivium's manager's mum's brother's next door neighbour's milkman.

Or maybe it was pushed out by an article about what brand of toothpaste Ville Vallo uses.

As for Pete Doherty there are no musicians in the world I respect less than him, in fact why is he not in prison? any normal person would be facing a hefty jail term for all the crap he's done.... numerous drug offences, vandalism, drunk driving, burgalry, stealing cars, the list goes on, and on, and on... and Babyshambles should really be an offence punishable by castration at least, this man should not be allowed to breed if he's willing to put that shite out.
Isn't it ironic that not many people know the meaning of the word esoteric?

i heard kerrang reviewed one of the new york gigs.

that could be untrue as i've not personally read the worthless rag for some time now, that said, they gave both Therapy? and Wolfmothers new albums good reviews.
and that's the only thing i'm going to say.

had a butcher's at it in the newsagents the other day. They do indeed have a review of the NY gig (Wednesday's iirc). 3 Ks and pretty favourable, but noticed that there were Ginger weren't too happy. But from the tone of the rest of the review I'd have expected 4 Ks :?

Steady on Mr Daily Mail. It's only (very) over-hyped sloppy pub rock- nothing worth the chap losing his bollocks over. And he doesn't really deserve a hefty jail sentence just for being a bit of a pathetic drug addict- but drink driving is certainly not big or clever.
