"100 broken windows"

Postby spoon_of_grimbo » 12th Dec 08, 03:44

i'm listening to this (Idlewild) album and randomly browsing the forums (having an "extended break" from a particularly infuriating piece of coursework), and i felt the need to point out that it's possibly one of the greatest british rock albums ever. anyone else think so?

Well done that man! It is indeed a classic. I first herd Actually its Darkness in a hospital ward (long story...) and got the nurse to make me a copy of the album and I was hookd. Roseability is probly my fav but Listen To What Youve Got and Little Discourage rank just as high.

On the suject I actually prefair Hope is Important as an album overall. Its just got this youth energy that the more refined Windows lacked for me. Everyone Says You're So Fragile, Paint Nothing, A Film For The Future, and Low Light are some of my fav songs of all time by any band and I still listen to Hope regually on rotation but I just dont get the same urges for Windows.

After that The Remote Part was excleent, Warnings/Promises is terrible and Ive not got round to getting Make Another World yet. Is that one any good?

I've seen them a couple of times and they always seem to mean it.

Graham Coxon stole the bassist for his first couple of live shows too, very punk sound.

What would be the best album they've done?

i wouldn't call warnings/promises terrible, but it's not their best. make another world is pretty good actually, like a fuzzier "100 broken windows." (incidentally, if you're going to get make another world, get the import version on amazon - i got it for about 3 quid used, and it's got "hidden ways" as a bonus track, which is a bloody good song).

i think the great thing about idlewild is that there's such a huge variation in their material, that they've got an album for every mood. their b-sides are pretty awesome too (incidentally, if anyone wants them, PM me your email).

andwah, probably best to start with either "100 broken windows" or "the remote part" as they're the most accessible, but all their stuff's great tbh. again, most of it's on amazon for about a quid each! that's where i got them anyway.

Those shows are long since sold out. But go here...

http://www.idlewildmusic.co.uk

...and for £15 you help fund the new album, a special edition of which you'll get a couple of months before the shop release, with your name in the sleeve. And you also get 15 free downloads from the recordings of the above shows. So you could get the whole of 100 Broken Windows live with a few tracks to spare into the bargain...
