It amazes me, Ginger asks if the Wildhearts are still relevant in this day and age and
openly admits to reading this forum so to hear/read the naysayers on this forum saying it was a shit gig/tour is a bit of a kick in the bollocks, yeah so what he had a bad night or two, it comes with the territory not every gig they play will be 100% perfect sound and performance or tailored to everyones dream setlist. We all have bad days at work or in life and what would we do if someone was to go and say that something we did was shit when we'd openly admitted that it was any and it was our own fault much like Ginger did?, that last thing you'd want is someone rubbing it saying it was a waste of time or effort.

Everyone I've spoken to that was at the London show couldnt really find any major fault. The only time I even noticed anything may be slightly awry was when Ginger walked off stage, came back on and apologised then carried on playing and when A started, i thought their sound was a bit muddy but that got fixed quick and I was at the front just infront of Scott. The sound was fine there.

Basically what I'm saying is give some consideration to the poor guy if he's feeling down at the moment don't stick the boot in when he needs our support the most.
People are gonna say I'm talking bollocks and start knocking me, go ahead I dare you, but just remember feelings are involved in these things and with Ginger saying he's bipolar he's possibly more open and vulnerable to feelings being hurt by people saying something even remotley derogatory to/about him than most of you lot. Give the support he/they need, pass this tour off as a small hiccup, those of who spent loads of money on seeing them on this tour just feel glad you got to see them again and that next time should and more than likley WILL be better.

I'm not sticking up for him cuz he's bi-polar or cuz Im a fan I'm sticking up for the fact that the show really wasn't as bad as people are making out, I and a fair few others did not come away feeling cheated.

One more thing, Ean, Trudi or whoever is Mr/Mrs Mod, lock this sodding thread.
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

total agreeage.

even a couple of bad gigs in a tour is still a better track record than most bands anyway, and as many have said, none of these were BAD gigs at all.
IF THERE'S A SOUND YOU PLAY THAT DOESN'T FIT TODAY,
WHY NOT JUST PLAY THE BASTARD ANYWAY?!

Being realistic, apart from one post saying Oxford was OK, it's only the London gig attracting any flak. I went to Manchester, and it was awesome, Ginger was really stoked for it (doubt it was just because he had "Understanding Jane"'s author in to sing for him), I saw a similar post about Wolves. It was even nice to find the setlist changed between gigs too, i saw last year's** tour in Oxford and London and had the same setlist both nights, neither gig was as good in my view as London this time. It wasn't a shit tour, and most of us had a good night in London.

But I remember remarking to the Mrs that basically most of the post gig discussion usually centres on "was Ginger in a good mood" and it just all seems a bit Axl Rose to me...

**Might have been the year before - actually just found the ticket stub for April '07

Fair point, I was just generalising with that sentence, my post was more to do with the attitudes of certain people more than how many off gigs there'd been but i can see where you're coming from

I've been trying not get roped into this thread but I think you hit the nail on the head there - everyone has a bad day from time to time. Not everyone has thousands of people watching them have a bad time and then picking it apart and sticking the knife in afterwards - especially if person in question has realised, apologised and then stuck it out anyway to give people what they want.

This also gets me - if some people didn't even notice anything was wrong, and others noticed but appreciated that they carried on despite the on-stage sound problems (which must have been very frustrating), then there seems to be an exaggeration in some quarters about what actually is the problem here. And there seems to be a lot of people coming out of the woodwork to criticize who are not half as vocal with praise when that is due.

I hate to rub this in here, but Sheffield was awesome, I hear Glasgow was awesome, Manchester was incredible and everyone was quite clearly in a good mood. I can't think of any other gig which has come in for stick except London, and yet here we are going on for pages and pages about the one bad gig and not the good gigs on the rest of the tour. It was one less than perfect night on an otherwise excellent tour. End of.

So to sum up you shouldn't say anything slightly critical or negative about the Wildhearts because
a) Ginger reads this forum
b) He's Bi Polar

I don't agree with that, anyone has the right to post whatever they like here. Just cos you're a fan of a band doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to voice a negative opinion on something, just as you have the same right to voice some appreciation. There's only been about a few people have a moan anyway, anyone would think it was half of the forum members.

What if the person posting the message is having a bad day and feeling a bit pissed off and decide they want to vent some frustration about a gig that cost them a lot of money on this message board, they get abuse for being "moaning bastards". Is it only Ginger who can swing from upbeat to pissed off then?

Ginger shouldn't let three or four messages from a few people who bothered to complain about the gig get to him, when theres loads praising the gigs and thousands of people who don't bother to say anything.

On the latest covers album Ginger spoke of Soul Ayslum saying he loved their early stuff but one of their later songs is Godawful. DId he think about Dave Pirner's feelings when he put that out on the liner notes? It comes with the territory of being in a band, and if you are a sensitive soul then it would be best not to read what people write about you, and that includes your fans, cos unfortunately they can be your harshest critics.

I do agree that the some of the critical posts have been a bit too harsh, as from where I was standing the gig was pretty good, but people are entiled to their opinion, some think it was a good gig despite Ginger's mood, some didn't. But to say peple shouldn't post any complaints here is wrong, and things like complaints about the setlist, the band should hear. It's not a bad thing to say I would love to hear song X instead of Song Y that the band has played three million times is it?

What he said

It is worth bearing in mind that the negative voice is always louder than the positive voice (and sadly often more vulgar). The concept of moderating what we should put on the off chance that Ginger might read it is... well, it's a zero isn't it? Doesn't even bear considering. It's taking sycophancy to an extreme.

Are, those moaning buggers are a bunch of moaning buggers and I reckon that I would disgree with their statements where I in a position to do so (i.e. were I at the gig). However I'll not condemn them for doing it, and especially not for some of the reasons stated above. To be honest, even when I've seen them play god awfully and they were clearly not wanting to be there I've still come away thinking it was the best night ever, but then again I do have WH shaped love goggles.

Right. As this has somewhat inevitably turned into the 57th incarnation of the 'Should we criticise the band?' argument, we'll perhaps draw things to a close for this round.

See you all again when the new album comes out.
