Drums (and other backing tracks) MP3 to I Wanna Go

Postby Assmask » 17th Feb 09, 14:49

I've created a drums track to I Wanna Go Where The People Go, for you home jammers out there!

If you want it let me know. I can MP3 it up and mail it to you.

I'm also going to be adding a couple of guitars and bass to it, so if you want, say, an MP3 with bass and drums to jam to I could send you that also/instead. Or any combination thereof.

I know, I know. I'm lovely.

OK, I'm just laying down the lead guitar now, once I've done that I'll do bass.

Arse about tit, I know, but my guitar is easily to hand and I need to detune the bass from F to E#.

OK sent drum and bass version. Also got version with the lead and rhythm guitars I can add in or remove upon request. Albeit rough and unmixed.

LOL, yup. In my band we play in E# (like the Wildies), but some of the songs that I was singing were too low for me, however due to the way I'd written the songs (lot's of open string harmonies) It became necessary to have another set of instruments tuned a step higher. And then I thought, well fuck it, it sounds even better 2 steps higher, so instead of tuning up to E, I went one fret further and tuned my other guitar to F. And as my bass is the bands backup bass, that also lives most of it;s life at F.

As far as I know it's not damaging for the guitar, and I've only had one string break so far......

However if any of you guys have any suggestions that might mean I can return to one guitar I'd take them on board. I prefer having my backup as that - backup - in case a string goes at a gig or such like.

Ah, right, you (I'm assuming) meant Eb (flat), rather than E# (sharp) - because technically E# and F are the same note.

I can't say whether you're damaging your guitar, it depends on what gauge of strings you use. It's slightly different to tuning down because you're putting more strain on the neck rather than less, but a semitone shouldn't make much difference unless you've had it set up for Eb. Chances are though, all you'll notice is some dodgy intonation at the top end of the neck.

Unless you're willing to use a capo or something, I don't think there's really anything you can use to pitch shift that won't sound a bit artificial and processed. Unless you've got a few grand knocking about, in which case buy a Gibson Dark Fire.

Fuck yeah, of course it's Eb wtf was I thinking!

Geordie - I said in the email that the bass is tuned to E# - I meant Eb!

What a muppet.

The guitar is set up for standard and I've not noticed any weirdness at the top. There is only one instance where it's a bit odd and that's one song where I hold down the 14 fret on the D string (what would be E if I were in standard tuning), and hold two fingers lightly over all the other strings at the 12th fret. And then rapidly strum up and down. This used to give a ringing E note with a nice forced harmonic effect. However, when tuned up to F the harmonics sound somewhat discordant. The E note is fine as I've checked it on the tuner, it's defintely the harmonics. Still, there are ways around it.

Yep that's the intonation, unfortunately the equal temperament system is a bit of a compromise when it comes to tuning fretted instruments unless you set them up specifically for that tuning.

I don't know what your technical knowledge is like, but if you don't already know, you can find out how spot on your intonation is like this :-

Although I wouldn't mess with it too much if you don't feel comfortable tinkering. :D

That's a very succinct article, thanks. I knew about the 12th fret test, just not how to fix it if it was out. I'll give it a try on my uptuned guitar later.

OK that is sent. Don't forget it's in Eb ( :) ) However you can get away with just playing it all one fret lower if you can't be arsed to detune.

Dweezil - on this board - has offered to add vox to it. However he has gone to ground so I might do that myself. I'm not a good singer tho.
