Unfamiliar Wildhearts songs?

Are there any Wildhearts tracks you don't really know that well? I've always been an avid fan of their b-sides (like a lot of us) but I admit there are some around the '...Must be Destroyed' era that I couldn't even tell you what they sound like. I have them on single and on 'Coupled With' but the following I just didn't get into -

I seriously have no idea how any of those go, what the chorus is etc. Also not really familiar with the b-sides to The New Flesh -

Yeah, there's a few shocking songs in the Destroyed era. I listened to Coupled With the other day and there were songs I knew and hummed along with as they were on, but couldn't tell you what they sound like now, or even which ones they are. All I know is that they aren't called Bang, because that song is superb.

6.30 onwards is a badass song! one of the ones that really stuck out on "coupled with."


i gotta admit though, as much as i like everything WH have done, the TWMBD/Coupled With era is the one that gets the least amount of listenage from me.

You really should listen to Unbroken one of my favourite songs from the last couple of years.

Yeah, allow a few spins to let your brain dig the vocals out of the murk and Unbroken is an all-time WH great, imo.

Love the chorus of Return To Zero too, very poppy and pogo-y to me although it's kinda half-submerged in production mud again.

And I think that Action Panzer rivals Suckerpunch in terms of viciousness and speed of the verses.

Yeah. Action Panzer is one of my faves from that era.

I know in various aspects of life people talk about quality over quantity but i think The Wildhearts can be an exception to the rule. We are spoilt when it comes to the sheer volume of material but as far as 'misses' go - i don't believe they've had that many. There's a couple from that era that i'm not exactly crazy about either but that's to be expected when a band is pumping out that many songs in a short amount of time which that period was.

...Must Be Destroyed is quite comfortably my least favourite Ginger album, not that I dislike any of it, just that about half the songs don't particularly move me, but then they're so simple in Ginger terms I still know them well. I love the B-sides from that era though, anyone not keen on them either probably isn't keen on the heavier end of the Wildhearts music or should have another listen.

Lost Highway was lost on me as it was vinyl only, I have a cheap record player which can make things sound quite tinny, and that song always just sounded like something was wrong with my player. Having recently got the Anthem Japanese Cd, it turns out my record player isn't quite that bad. Although I should add I'm now particularly fond of that recording.

I really like them, but don't tend to hear Soul Searching on Planet Earth & Moodswings & Roundabouts get many mentions - maybe they're 'unfamiliar' to some people?

I love Soul Searching..., but if I want to listen to Fishing for Luckies I go for the original version. Aside from the singles they never really played any of the reissued versions new tracks live, so I guess for either reason they get a little forgotten about. If I had to make one criticism of the Wildhearts, it would be that considering the huge amount of great songs they have, they have a core of songs that make up the majority of their set, perhaps the next tour is an opportunity to make Soul Searching a new fan favourite.

moodswings & roundabouts is easily one of my favourites tbh. i was gonna try and figure out a way of turning suckerpunch, m&r, and S.I.N. into a mini-medley thing for that wildhearts cover thread a while back, but i never got round to it...

also, while we're on fishing for luckies, i think "do the channel bop" is one of their best, and the song i usually miss off that album is "nite songs" - it's great, a really nice chilled closer, but because of the ridiculous half-hour of laughing that follows it, i usually miss it off whenever FFL gets put on my mp3 player because it just takes up loads of space.

Love Soul Searching, too, would be well up for it live. Yet for some reason, everytime the "different kind of lo-o-o-ove" part comes on in the chorus, my mind segues into "aaaahhh, the night before", courtesy of the Beatles...
Be My Drug and Can't Do Right would be other songs I'd be happy to see dug up.

Anyway, there are several songs I'm quite unfamiliar with (admittedly more so post-reunion, but that might be because I don't tend to listen to music quite as much as I did before I got a job). However, I never got into V-Day, which irked me, because it seemed to be a fan favourite.

Post-reunion, I could do without Let's Go, for example. If I Decide has a cool verse in my opinion but lacks a decent, coherent chorus. And Bang! I personally find to be a rather boring little number apart from the Who tribute.

by pure coincidence i brought coupled with into woork yesterday to listen to and then saw this thread a t lunch time
personally i love coupled with - especially 6.30, eager to leave er, return to zero and you got to get through....
i probably listen to this album more than any other wh cd except for earth vs.

I remember Ginger playing Eager to Leave Her on one of his solo tours and wondering why nobody was really into it. he seemed baffled by the response and he was well into playing it.

Unbroken in my opinion is easily better that all the songs on the self titled album, i went seven shades of mental when they played it on tour!!!
