GATSC fans speak now!

Postby nig1012 » 9th Jun 06, 16:23

hey this isn`t a critisism guys its just an observation but i`ve seen GATSC 3 times now, nott/gham rescue rooms, wolves wulfrun and dudley jb`s and the answer 2 this question may lie in the number of people that turned up at each gig BUT WHERE WOZ THE MOSHING/DANCING/JUMPING/CRAZINESS? ok with an exception of the rescue rooms which woz pretty damn full the other 2 gigs i mentioned the crowd were pretty subdued (yes me included). woz it because VDC isn`t quite as up tempo as SG5 or the WH or woz it an attendance thing. like i said this is not a crtisism of the fans cause we all love the man and his music but i bet it will be wild 2day at DOWNLOAD being a festival atmosphere which i will be gutted about cus i`m at home typing this topic on a message board like a sad muppet. but on the other side off the coin i do like sometimes like 2 actually stand and watch the band (this usually happens when its my turn 2 drive and am not fuelled by alcohol) it would be good 2 here wot u guys think

I reckon the answers simple enough.... most of us are owld bastards

Last gig I went to where I went mental was Wildhearts at Newcastle Uni in 2003... or was it 2004? Anyway... its a combination of GATSC music being a little less manic than the Wildhearts and the overall age of the fans I reckon.

I think it's a combination of things. Crowd size, getting old (I now prefer to stand back a bit coz it's better sound anyway) and maybe the style of the music.

Last few bands I have seen there has been v little moshing, except Therapy?

I prefer gigs where the crowd don't go completely crazy, cos I find with mosh pits and things it just gets far too hot and violent and painful! At last night's sonic circus gig the crowd were still really into it and enjoying the whole thing, just without squishing everybody else who was there... I can't blame my preferences on age though, I just prefer to watch the band, and just bounce around a little bit to my favourite songs :)

Hmm, I've been down the front for 5 Sonic Circus gigs now and it's been fantastic every time... I guess it depends where in the crowd you stand.

I know that in the March London date, I was nearly swept off my feet at one point!

Yeah, that one was pretty manic, I think it was the combination of small(ish) room and packing it from front to back that did it. JB's wasn't exactly what you might call full the other night - but warm ups I've been to rarely are.

Plus, we are all old bastards...

For me, I just want to watch the spectacle. Especially with all those musicians on stage.

I think it's mainly down to the music being a bit more laid back. If you think about the 'hearts songs that get the crowd going like, Suckerpunch & Shitsville, there aren't any songs like that on VDC. That's not a criticism, I think the songs on VDC are much better.

Regards,

an old git!

I'm a terribly old 31...I have to say when I've been drinking in the afternoon, and then standing around for 3 and a half hours between arriving at the venue and the band coming on , it's making me a little weary these days. I like to find a nice perch with a good view somewhere, jig imperceptibly and holler along to the songs.

Another thing that wears me down a bit is the support bands these days. You used to get quality support bands. The first one one at JB's the other night were quite agreeable. But then having to endure a second support act - those two caterwauling chicks - they were feckin' abysmal and almost sent me into a coma. You get Ginger talking about playing past the curfew and people not being able to get transport home - ditch one of the support acts then! Particularly when most of them these days are shite. Can we have Vix as a future support act please?

Exactly, on the rockin songs the crowd rock out, on stuff like "This is only a problem" they stand, sway, and sing along. There was plenty of crowd action that I noticed durign the last gig I was at though, so it's not that bad.
Isn't it ironic that not many people know the meaning of the word esoteric?
