mark thomas

went to see the genius that is mark thomas on tuesday. an awesome stand up show that is really really funny BUT quite scary and very thought provoking. for those that don't know mark does things like infiltrates arms fairs and exposes loopholes in the laws regarding torture equipment.AND YET IS STILL FUNNY

his book "as used on the famous nelson mandela, underground adventures in the arms and torture trade" is brilliant as well.

do yourselves a favour and check him out.
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

Saw him at The Bloomsbury theatre a couple of years back (and a few times at festival comedy tents) and he was excellen then, too.

Aye I am reading his book just now (£7 in Fopp). Much of it he has done on his tv show years ago, The bit when he takes back a spiderman from Major General Widjojo for bad posture is class.

jist don't be workin' in a callcentre if he calls in with the hump....fer a man who stands up fer tolerance, freedom & the little guy so much, he ain't half quick wit' da "do-you-know-who-you're-dealing-with-i'll-have-your-job-you-insolent-prole!" routine. (an' unfortunately, not only did he GO there, he laid it on with a shovel). alas, it had been a BIT of a tryin' day, an' the british rail contact centre pays SLIGHTLY less than the mark thomas comedy product, an' with the best will in the world one cannot make a train appear from a to b at a specified time, upon request; not even for the bloke with the hot air balloon shaped like saddam hussein.....

whereupon he wuz promptly informed that if he wanted a mode of public transport which would arrive exackly where he wanted picked up, exackly when he wanted picked up, and drop him off right on the doorstep of the place he wanted to arrive at, then perchance he'd be best off callin' a taxi, an' not the railways ticket information service.

i kinda went off him after that.....

altho', to be fair, there WUZ one call that wuz sillier, an' that wuz (imagine wayne slob after 6 litres of white lightnin'....)

"OI!! WHERE'S MY FUCKIN' TRAIN??!"

"Good evening sir, could you tell me.."

"FUCK ALL THAT,C**T!! WHERE'S MY FUCKIN' TRAIN??!"

"I'm just trying to find that out for you, sir; which station are you.."

"DON'T GIVE ME THAT FUCKIN' SHIT YOU FUCKIN' C**T! WHERE'S MY FUCKIN' TRAIN???!"

you get the picture......he's probly still there....wherever 'there" was.....

jist thought i'd best specify that "the man with no train" wuz NOT mark thomas.

he wuz merely an amateur (an' completely unintentional!!) comedian!

I'm glad to hear that story to see that there's someone out there who doesn't entirely share the Mark Thomas love.

A clever man, no argument. But from the times I've seen his shows, someone who clearly absolutely LOVES himself. And so many of the comedic crescendos are designed to say "...and this was how I saved the day!" - comedic crescendos being the bit where you use vocal accenting to more or less force the crowd to clap. Well done Mark, have a biscuit.

Shite! I sounded a bit like Kev then, didn't I?

Interesting. He's always struck me as being one of those guys who I don't mind watching as a fan, but I wouldn't want to go for a pint with him cos I think he'd do my head in.
How dare you!
